MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Melissa A. Fabello, PhD
Melissa A. Fabello, PhD is a feminist writer and educator whose work focuses on body politics, beauty culture, and eating disorders.
Currently, she works as a freelance digital content strategist, helping individuals and organizations who work in wellness with a myriad of services, including editorial direction, social media, press strategy, and market research. She's worked on projects with large-scale organizations, such as the National Eating Disorders Association, the Representation Project, and Tumblr, as well as helped launch individual entrepreneurial endeavors.
Previously, Melissa worked for five years as Managing Editor of Everyday Feminism, one of the largest independent feminist media sites in the world. There, she guided the organization into a unique editorial style grounded in evidence-based educational practices.
A licensed educator with over a decade of experience, Melissa has taught in many capacities. She has worked as a high school English teacher, middle school sexuality educator, and in domestic violence and sexual assault prevention education. She also teaches freelance wellness writing as a graduate-level elective course at Widener University, and has taught social justice essay writing at California State University. Her energetic teaching style is honed around participant-centered learning objectives, so her audiences leave not only with knowledge, but with tangible skill sets.
As a freelance writer and sought-out expert, Melissa's work has been featured in SELF, Bon Appetit, Teen Vogue, The Guardian, and on Good Morning America, MSNBC, and the BBC, among others.
Melissa holds a PhD in Human Sexuality Studies from Widener University, where her research explored how women with anorexia nervosa make meaning of their sexual experiences.
